Mark S. Keith Memorial Scholarship EstablishedThe family and friends of union Brother Mark Keith announce the establishment of the Mark Keith Memorial Scholarship to benefit a student graduating from Homer High School. Brother Keith, SEIU and formerly UAW, was a strong supporter and advocate of workers' rights and social justice. He served as President of United Auto Workers Local 802, as Communications Director for SEIU 200United, and as Officer, Delegate, and activist for the Midstate Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Homer High School. The recipient will be a social science major in college and must have demonstrated academic excellence and involvement in the community. Financial need, minority and/or disability status and outstanding achievement may all be factors in selecting the recipient. Ron Powell, Mark's long-time friend and union Brother, says that the scholarship is a tribute to Mark that "will best exemplify his dedication to social justice and continue his commitment to give back to the community." It is the hope of the family and friends to be able to offer this scholarship for many years through donations to the fund. Those who wish to honor Brother Keith's memory by a donation can do so through: Homer Education Foundation The Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization; contributions are tax-deductible. A printable donation form is available here If using the form, please indicate "Mark Keith Memorial Scholarship" in the box at lower right. Or simply mail donations directly to the address above. For all donations, please write Mark Keith on the memo line of your check so it will be directed to the appropriate account. |
