CNY ALF Elects New President at Annual Meeting

The Central New York Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO swore in its new President, Ann Marie Taliercio at its Annual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2009. President Taliercio hails from UNITEHERE Local 150, which represents Hotel and Restaurant workers in the Central New York Area.

Kate Bronfenbrenner, Director of Labor Education Research for Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, delivered the Keynote Address on the Employee Free Choice Act and organizing to the attending Delegates, who gave her a standing ovation in response.

The Annual Meeting also featured a discussion group, facilitated by Barry Kaufman of NYS AFL-CIO and Jeff Colburn, CNY ALF VP and CSEA/AFSCME on next steps for the ALF, and workshops on increasing diversity of representation in our organizations, facilitated by Fareed Michelin of NYS AFL-CIO, occupational health and safety, facilitated by Pat Rector, Outreach and Education Coordinator for the Occupational Health Clinical Center , and increasing media exposure, facilitated by Lee Conrad, CWA 1701, and National Coordinator of Alliance@IBM .
